Mermaids and Miniatures, Oh My!

From Puffins to Peacocks, Grey Whales to Bunny tails, there is something for everyone in the current display of work by local artist Jennifer Larsen in the lobby of the Sylvia Beach Hotel.

Titled, "It's More Than Just Black & White", this mixed media show means just that. Larsen has created black and white paintings as well as full-spectrum of color undersea paintings. Ranging
from miniature pieces to large works, many of her canvases include vintage jewelry, freshwater pearls, fabric other "extras" to draw the eye and enhance the art. Also featured in the show are Larsen's well known needle felted characters as well as her stunning photography.

Larsen has been painting all her life, and has been writing and creating her own comic strip for the last 17 years. After moving to Newport from Seattle, she took up needle felting, and has sold her creations all over the world through her on-line shop. Also a repeat Nye Beach Banner artist, Jennifer looks forward to keeping busy with this years' endeavors.

The show can be seen in the Sylvia Beach Hotel lobby until May 19th.

Sad News - Unhappy feelings

On Tuesday, February 2nd, my dog was put to sleep. She meant a lot to me, and I don't think it was her time. I don't know who reads this blog, if anyone, so I'm going to vent here. If I hurt your feelings, I'm sorry, but I'm pretty emotional about it. Uta just turned 15 in October 2009, and she was old, yes...but was it her time? Absolutely not. This video was taken just about 45 minutes before she was taken to the vet. Sure she was old, but she still liked to go out and wander around, walking with the cat, smelling all the things, etc. Boots used to go with us on our walks....no matter how short or long they were. I wasn't allowed to go with Uta to the vet. I had to say goodbye to my dog (technically my Moms dog, but Uta and I knew better) before they left. Mom said "I can't deal with YOU AND Uta AND me in the room!" What a load. I felt like I had let Uta down by not being there to let her know I wasn't abandoning her. Mom and Louise

Aw Hell.

Ever hear of the engine that wouldn't quit? I don't know how many times I've made an effort to create something that I think the public would want, and I don't know how many times I've been denied any sales. This weekend was a big climactic ending to a very busy few months (I still have more things on my plate, but none have to do with self-fund-raising). I worked diligently at making enough heads (almost 20) to sell at the WAG Dog Trials this weekend. I made all different kinds - researched them - found out which dog breeds would actually BE there so I wouldn't waste my time making ones that weren't in attendance.... I suppose I'm disappointed, because I build up the idea in my mind that I have a good product - and I know I still do, regardless of how many I sell - but no one's buying. I'm sure that little engine had a name....maybe I'll get a shirt made with the number zero on the back and the name of the little engine...reminding me to ne

Getting ready...

Sheesh...so many things to get ready for! 1. Louise and Mom coming back tomorrow from the hospital (L with a new knee) - have to get the house in order - do laundry - clean the house - prepare comfort foods (like jello and pudding) - and run some last minute errands.... 2. WAG Dog Trials (agility trials) Saturday morning - make 6 more heads to get the total up to 20 - figure out a display for the heads - take pictures of the new heads and get them printed up and laminated for the dog portfolio - label and put hangers on all the heads 3. Last minute banner to do for Nye Beach Merchants Assoc. - due by the 15th - not going to be as involved as the last one, but still want to make it nice 4. Finish designing the new painting for the car - have to have it done and have pics taken by the 29th (so I can take the pics to my reunion) - gotta have something to show off! I don't have kids - the car IS my baby! 5. SOMEWHERE IN THERE - IS MY BIRTHDAY!!! This is the first year I haven't
