4/15/11 Mermaids and Miniatures, Oh My! From Puffins to Peacocks, Grey Whales to Bunny tails, there is something for everyone in the current display of work by local artist Jennifer Larsen in the lobby of the Sylvia Beach Hotel. Titled, "It's More Than Just Black & White", this mixed media show means just that. Larsen has created black and white paintings as well as full-spectrum of color undersea paintings. Ranging from miniature pieces to large works, many of her canvases include vintage jewelry, freshwater pearls, fabric other "extras" to draw the eye and enhance the art. Also featured in the show are Larsen's well known needle felted characters as well as her stunning photography. Larsen has been painting all her life, and has been writing and creating her own comic strip for the last 17 years. What time is it?
I honestly can't believe it's September already! Clearly life has taken over my time - and I'm possibly the worst blogger, EVER! The "highlights" of this year include; January - I got my banner to start work on, because the design was going to be much more time consuming than in the past March - Mom got a hip replacement surgery...so I'm always available if needed to help her or Louise. May - June - Finally finished my banner, but was consumed by working on the banner booklet. This year's involved contacting each individual artist and getting a bio from them. However, the Banner Booklet is incredible! Each artist has their own page - so the pictures of their banner (front and back) are so much bigger than before...AND their bio is included! It looks great! 2012 Banner July - I turned 41...and for by birthday I got a roommate. I know him from 20+ years ago...and he's going through some really hard times...and because of past experiences,...
